Quiltmaking has always been a tool for gathering, with communities coming together to make, learn, and share through the simple act of stitching. Join Cloth Collective co-founders Avon and Jess to continue these traditions through three relaxed afternoons of sewing and chatting as we create hand-stitched mini quilts.
Inspired by the Beyond the Bedspread exhibition at Inverness Museum & Art Gallery, we’ll work our way through colour, shape, and line:
Saturday 21 November, 2-4pm: Workshop 1 will explore patchwork to make colourful hand-stitched fabric collages
Saturday 28 November, 2-4pm: Workshop 2 will explore shape and pattern to tell stories using appliqué techniques
Saturday 5 December, 2-4pm: Workshop 3 will explore quilting as we stitch our layers of fabric together with wandering lines of thread
You’re welcome to attend one, some, or all of these workshops.
These workshops are suitable for quilting beginners. As well as all tools and materials, you will be provided with an instructional booklet to help you continue your mini quilt if you are unable to attend all three workshops.
Price: Each workshop is available on a 'pay what you can' sliding scale from £5 - £15
About the Facilitators
Cloth Collective is a new community-led sewing group based in Inverness. We bring people together to share needles, skills, and joy and in the process we create banners, quilts, and other textile works that explore the complexities of the world around us. Our monthly meetings will begin in the new year - come along to meet other makers, learn something new, work on your own project, or contribute to collaborative creations.
