Ensemble Écoute: A Musical Journey (Macphail Centre)

Fri 22 Nov 2024 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM GMT The Macphail Centre, Ullapool, IV26 2UN

The Macphail Centre is delighted to welcome Ensemble Écoute to the highlands, offering a rare opportunity to hear classical music live.

The Ensemble is based in France and made up of musicians from all over the world, many of them graduates of the National Conservancy of Music in Paris.

They will be bringing their exquisite programme of music celebrating the richness of French composition to the Macphail Theatre on Friday 22nd November:

Paris 20th Century / 100 Years in the City of Lights: a Musical Journey

PROGRAMME

Claude Debussy, Sonata in D Minor for cello and piano

Maurice Ravel, Duo for violin and cello

Francis Poulenc, Sonata for piano 4 hands

Andre Jolivet, Sonatine for flute and clarinet

Tomas Bordalejo, L'Eternel Commencement, for vibraphone

Germaine Tailleferre, Trio for violin, cello and piano

Pierre Boulez, Derivés I for ensemble

‘Just over 100 years ago, Paris saw the beginning of what became a century of music rich in variety and experimentation. Not long after Debussy write his final works, such as his cello sonata, Boulez was born, and the trajectory of music in France grew in great and unexpected ways. The ever-vibrant ‘city of lights’ quickly solidified as a major meeting point for a vast array of musical thinkers and artists, providing a rich terrain of music to explore. We invite you to plunge into this world with us!’

Ensemble Ecoute was created in 2015 at the initiative of the conductor and pianist Fernando Palomeque and the composer Alex Nante. Working directly with the newest generation of composers, as well as dedicated to well-known late 20th century music, the Ensemble strives to convey a rich array of musical expression to the public through concerts, installations and recordings. We are thrilled they will be with us in Ullapool for this special winter concert.

Doors will open at 6.40pm; please be seated by 7pm for the start of this concert. No latecomers will be admitted. There will be no interval.
