An embodied response to the death of an ash tree, the process of its removal and the site where it once lived.

Kate and Hannah met through the Ash Rise project initiated by The Scottish Furniture Makers Association in partnership with Scottish Forestry and the Association of Scottish Hardwood Sawmillers. The project includes a touring exhibition of work made by 20 artists, designers and makers using wood from Scottish ash trees. Currently on at Inverness Museum & Gallery until 17 May 2025, Ash Rise tells the story of the ash tree, its historic and contemporary brilliance as a material and the challenges of ash die-back.

Hannah Deus Draper is an Edinburgh-based dancer and community artist. She uses improvisation, somatic practices and score making to explore sites of extraction and ecological renewal. Kate Owens is a Glasgow-based artist working predominantly with print. She combines traditional textile techniques with choreography, testing a correlation between physical process and visual liveliness.

This performance has been made possible with financial support from The Hope Scott Trust, Creative Scotland and Glasgow Life and Inverness Museum & Gallery. Many thanks to Platform Easterhouse and Eden Court for support in-kind.
